In John C. Maxwell’s “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Rule #1 is “The Law Of The Lid”. The Lid is different for everyone. Do you know what yours is?
The Lid is established by your ability to lead. Maxwell gives a good example of the limitations and some things you can do to improve your ability to lead. You might also want to take a look at Robin Sharma’s “The Leader Who Had No Title”. I believe some of the greatest leaders are those who understand that they need to always be learning and growing. Those who believe they have all the answers are not actually leaders!
I see this sometimes with MLM groups. Someone will rise up for a while and then all of a sudden they hit their Lid. The problem is that most don’t realize it and become confused. They can’t understand why “their people” just don’t seem to get it. They are frustrated as people fall off the radar and seem to abandon their vision.
Once in a while, one of these fallen leaders will actually see what has happened and seek some help and support. They take the time to step back for a while and focus on learning. The really good ones will end up reaching even higher heights after a small fall. Sometimes even after a spectacular fall.
The past is history and soon forgotten. The future is what you make it.
Make it a great day!
P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for opportunity to learn. I’m thankful for those who have gone before us. I’m thankful for those with open and creative minds.
What are you thankful for today?
