Interesting.
The situation in England seems to be getting out of hand and they are blaming social media.
I was in a discussion with a friend yesterday who gave me a bit of a history lesson. Social unrest is really not uncommon in England. They have been demonstrating for years. Social media isn’t anywhere near the root cause for the unrest. It appears to me that the government is using this as an excuse to behave a little more like Hitler!
If you can’t solve the problem, try to shut them up and hide the issue. Take away their voice and then you won’t hear them any more.
Should they be going after the likes of Blackberry and iPhone? Absolutely not! They didn’t do anything to incite people. Their products are simply a technological tool. It’s like when my wife refers to “that stupid computer”. I calmly explain to her that she’s absolutely correct, it can only do what you tell it to. What I’m saying is the problem is the people behind the device, not the device itself.
By all means, the people causing harm and damage should be held responsible. I’m all for protesting but I am absolutely against physical violence as a form of protest.
I’m reading a book right now called “Walk the Walk” by Alan Deutschman. He makes a reference to Martin Luther King and an incident where he was attacked by a white supremacist. King literally turned the other cheek and the crowd followed his example. By showing such strength of character, King managed to prevent a large brawl and probably changed the course of history with that one act.
I suggest they look to the root of the problem rather than trying to bury the symptom and letting the wounds fester!

P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for Martin Luther King. I’m thankful we live in a free thinking society. I’m glad to be Canadian!
