Did you know that teenagers don’t like to get up early?
Imagine that!
There was an article in The Montreal Gazette on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 talking about a study that indicates teenagers would perform much better if their first period started later. As a father of four, I could have saved them a lot of money and time. All they had to do was listen when we told them that in Ontario years ago when they changed the kids busing schedule.
A number of years ago, they backed up the teenagers schedule to start class at 8am so that they could send the buses later to pick up the smaller kids after the teenagers started their class. This saved a lot of money by using the buses more efficiently. I get the savings part but the scheduling was backwards!
The little ones are already up and should have started earlier, the teenagers later. I believe this was purely to save daycare costs for parents. As far as hours with employers go, they would adjust accordingly. I never started until 5 when I was in high school and I worked in retail. Face it, at that time of day, it’s the teenagers spending money anyway. They would be serving their fellow students that got out at the same time.
Maybe the education system will catch up with the rest of us some day.
I have to admit, that was a rant! Sorry about that.

P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful that we at least have a good education system as imperfect as it is. I’m thankful I taught my children not to accept things at face value. I’m thankful that we have educators, bus drivers, etc. that care!
What are you thankful for today?
