I don’t know what it is but something seems to happen to people after they hit 40 something. We seem to become lost and unsure of where we are headed and hurting those around us while we try to figure things out.
Those around us end up so confused because we bottled up emotions for years and then let them have it all at once. Is that fair? Wouldn’t it be better to have an occasional “fight” once in a while? I don’t know about you but I really enjoy making up!
It’s too bad that it takes us so long to be open to hearing from people like Anthony Robbins. He wrote Unlimited Power over 20 years ago and I’m just discovering it now. I also just discovered Awaken The Giant Within. Another of Anthony’s amazing books. He will tell you himself that he’s no guru. Just a guy sharing a message. You will hear similar advice from people like Randy Taylor and Tim Rooney. You are very powerful, you just may not realize it yet.
Sometimes we need to hear the same message a few times before it sinks in. Sometimes it’s as simple as the tone of voice that makes the difference. Sometimes it’s just the time in our life that changes what we are willing to hear.
If we only took the time to really listen to each other, not just couples but everyone, then I believe there would be far fewer divorces and those who didn’t marry, might actually do so.
So before you throw out a 20 plus year marriage or career, take a time out and do a little introspection. Look inside yourself and see what has really changed. Determine what actually needs adjustment. It just might be your own attitude that’s the problem.
There are many books that might help and by all means, go hear some of the authors live. Some of us need to actually hear the voice and words to accept the concepts and ideas. As precious as time is, this may be the best investment you ever make. Invest in yourself and you might be surprised that virtually everyone benefits.
Whatever drives you, whether personal gain or making a difference for others, there is no better place to invest your valuable time and resources. You are the greatest asset the world has.
Please don’t squander such a valuable commodity.
Make it a great day!
Barry
P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for the opportunity to lend an ear when a friend needs one. I’m thankful for the friends who let me bend their ear. I’m thankful for the patience of my lovely wife!
What are you thankful for today?
