People are so interesting!
Over the last couple of years we have been doing a lot of reading in our house. We are focused on books that will help us grow. In the process, we have been suggesting some of these to our children with not much success. Their perception, what they “hear”, is that the books are about making money. That perception is because our business activities were the catalyst for us and that’s all the kids see. The other day, my daughter brought me a book called The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It’s written in story format much like The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen. The funny thing is the concepts are all the same as what we have been telling them! When someone is making a suggestion, I recommend you separate that from your past experiences. Most of grow continuously throughout our lives and the person you knew 10 years ago is not likely the same person today. Their words may be the same but the message has likely changed. A man I worked with many years ago had a quote that was really annoying to a 19 year old but it was some of the best advice I ever received. “Never assume lad, it makes an ass out of u and me.” That being said, I’m taking my 20 year old’s advice and reading The Alchemist. I’m only about 30 pages in but finding the underlying concepts very interesting and suggest you might consider this book for yourself. Make it a great day and have a Very Merry Christmas! Barry P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for the wisdom of youth. I’m thankful for my vision. I’m thankful for family, particularly at this time of year. What are you thankful for today? |
