Life happened to us again. My wife was rear ended by a drunk driver at 9:30am Sunday morning. The driver was a 28 year old female.
This made me think about the effects that drunk driving can have. We were lucky, my wife is hurt but alive. She was starting to tighten up by the time I got home last night.
We think about the stuff like her being hurt and the car is a write off. What we don’t think about is some of the immeasurable stuff. Because of the accident, she lost a day with my grand daughter. We will never get that back. My wife is suffering some anxiety now because the last thing we can afford right now is another car payment. We expected to have at least another year or two out of that vehicle and there is no way they will pay enough to replace the car.
The greatest cost is the loss of time with my grand daughter and the anxiety. How do you measure that?
Now there is a young lady, the driver, that will face great hardship both personally and financially. I can’t do anything about that but I pray she has learned a valuable lesson. God bless her.
Next time you have “a couple of beers”, think twice before you get behind the wheel.
Have a safe and happy day!
Barry
P.S.
What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful my wife is alive. I’m thankful for the friend that came to her aid because I was an hour away. I’m thankful my grand daughter’s mother was terrific in dealing with my grand daughter’s disappointment.
What are you thankful for today?
