| The ability to network is the most important skill we can ever master.
If you are a young person graduating from college or university, it’s your network that will provide the best employment opportunities. People like to hire people they know like and trust. That means you need to meet them somewhere on their terms to create your best opportunities. Teenagers are natural networkers and don’t even realize it! Just look at Facebook and watch them with texting on their cell phones. Mothers do it all the time. Drop in centres with the kids, school councils and play dates for their kids. How many times have you heard someone say “I’m not a salesman”. Bunk! We are selling all day. Selling the kids on cleaning rooms. OK, maybe even selling Dad on cleaning the garage. No matter how you cut it, when you are convincing someone to buy into your idea, you are selling. To be successful at selling, you need to be a master networker. Do you need to hone your networking skills? Try getting involved in an MLM. Join a club. Read “How To Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. Still a great book to this day.
