In John C. Maxwell’s “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”, the second law is The Law of Influence.
So many try to exert control to “make” people do their bidding. I think we all understand the strength of leverage. You can move the greatest obstacle if you have a big enough lever. This is where influence comes in.
When you have a title like manager or director, there is implied authority. You may or may not be able to get movement because of it. You won’t sustain the movement even if you manage to get it moving. There isn’t enough leverage.
When you focus on developing influence, you can move mountains. That movement is sustainable.
Look back in history at the likes of Mother Teresa. She had very little authority but she managed to move millions of people to make a difference. Her effects are still felt all over the world today and she has been gone almost 15 years!
To become a real leader, you must master The Law of Influence!
I highly recommend John C. Maxwell’s “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” as a great place to start honing your leadership skills.
Make it a great day!
P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for warm sunshine. I’m thankful for technology. I’m thankful for pocket dialing!
What are you thankful for today?
