In “The Fred Factor”, Mark Sanborn is talking about having the heart of a Fred.
He tells a story about a little boy and his father on the first day of Pre-Kindergarten. The little boy asks his father “Dad, what’s the most important thing of all?”. The father was really impressed that his son asked for advice about how to do well in school and was giving him advice like listening to the teacher and playing well with other kids when his son stopped him.
“D-a-a-a-a-a-a-d,” he said in frustration. “The most important thing of all is love.”
That stopped Dad dead in his tracks. How often do kids see with so much more clarity than adults!
Sometimes we spend so much time and energy looking for the “silver bullet” that we forget the most basic elements to success.
One of the most important things to remember about being a true Fred is the love of others. If you are always respectful and acting out of love, even the most difficult of conversations and situations become acceptable. You might not like the result but you will accept that it is ‘right’ without rancor and be able to move past even the most troublesome situations.
I highly recommend The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn. It really simplifies what is important.

What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful I had hot water to shower with. I’m thankful to have such a wonderful wife by my side. I’m thankful that God has blessed me with such wonderful friends.
