When things go wrong, don’t go with them! I heard this on a Hallmark move yesterday and it really resonated with me. Luckily, I wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget!
When Things Go Wrong
Things can and will go wrong. Regardless of our best laid plans, we are not alone in this world and stuff happens beyond our control. Yes, I acknowledge that sometimes things go REALLY wrong.
COVID-19 is a really good example. It all started somewhere else in the world and had nothing to do with me. Society as a whole was affected and yet that virus started somewhere outside of North America. There are all kinds of crazy theories about who is responsible but does it really matter? That genie is out of the bottle and there’s no going back. I don’t think things could go much more wrong than it did but I believe I see light at the end of the tunnel. Now you have a decision to make. Just decide!
Don’t Go With Them
When things go wrong, don’t go with them! We may not have had control over what happened but we DO have control over how we react.
We don’t have to be drawn into a black hole when things go wrong. It’s easy to feel sorry for ourselves and just dump on our friends and family in the hopes they will validate our feelings and give us permission to stay in our comfy dark space. Alternatively, when things go wrong, don’t go with them! Instead, look for what we CAN do to change the circumstance we find ourselves in and take steps to land in our happy place.
Let’s take the situation we found ourselves in with COVID-19. In my case, we haven’t been able to go to the office for the better part of two years. A challenge? Yes. I could have sat there resenting that I was “stuck” in my house. What did I do? I set up my office in the house to be as functional as the one in Toronto. Actually, it’s much better for comfort and convenience. As much as I used to resent the effect of Amazon on retailers, I was forced to embrace the virtual environment and ended up in a more comfortable space and regained 4 hours of my day! Now I have no desire to go back to what was.
So, when something goes wrong, don’t go with them!
Make it a great day,
Barry
P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for Amazon, Microsoft Teams and Internet. What are you thankful for today?
