I was sitting with a friend last night discussing challenges in prospecting.
When I asked if she had really asked for the business, she said not really. I have the same challenge myself and yet we all know that you can’t get the business if we don’t ask for it.
Why is it that we don’t ask? We do the same thing in our personal lives when we are in the dating phase. You’ll meet an amazing person that you know you would really enjoy spending time with but we don’t ask. Then we are upset when we lost that opportunity to someone else. Likely the only difference between you and that person is that they asked!
So, why don’t we ask? I believe it’s because we have a great fear of the word NO. Think about it. What can the word no do to you? Will it end your life? Will it break the bank? Not hearing the word NO can actually cause more problems. We spend time after time chasing an elusive dream when if we get the NO, we can move on to the next opportunity. It’s been said before that we can make and lose money over and over again but you can never get time back. Isn’t hearing NO better than losing precious time?
I believe the biggest reason we are afraid to face the big NO is our WHY isn’t big enough. When you have really dug into your why, no becomes such a little word. When you mine for the no, you hit some yesses along the way!
Go for the no, you’ll be glad you did!

What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful for the rain that will keep our food growing. I’m thankful for the friends in my life. I’m thankful that I was born in Canada!
