When you’re dialling for dollars, the phone can seem to weigh hundreds of pounds (kilos for younger folks in Canada!). There are ways you can trick yourself and make it fun. Are you willing?

Dialling For Dollars

girl-160Whether you are dialling for your own business or you are working for someone else, fear of the phone stops many of us from being successful. I watched a movie on Netflix recently called “Miss Dial“. In this case, she was receiving calls for help, not calling out and selling. She had reached the point where she just couldn’t pick up the phone any more.I think what she did next was a great idea. She started calling random people she didn’t know, just to make a connection on a personal level. 

When you have one of those days, pick up the phone and call someone you haven’t talked to in a long time that you know will be a positive person. Let them help you get back to your “happy place“.

Pain Reliever: Trick or Treat?

Sometimes, we have to trick ourselves. For some, it’s the promise of a treat that motivates us. Find things that help you move to a happy place where you can get started again.

Tricks

I’m not advocating tricking your prospects. It’s yourself that needs to be “tricked”.

We talk about the ability to disturb and motivate our prospects. By saying or doing something unexpected, we get their attention and they will give us their time and at least hear what we have to say. How are we any different? 

boy-160By finding a way to shake things up when we fall into a funk, we can find ways to make things interesting again. For example, I remember a guy who said that he would sometimes make cold calls in the nude. Now, that’s disturbing! I’m not sure I would go that far but to give him credit, he found a way to make it fun for himself. The person on the other end has no idea who you are, what you look like, or what you know. What they do know is what you sound like. Is there a smile in your voice and do you sound like you believe what you are saying? 

Maybe for you, it’s picturing your prospect in a situation where they need your help to get out of a bad situation and you are the super hero with a special ability to save the day. Find what works for you.

Treats

golf-304403_1280Some respond better to treats or the proverbial carrot on a stick. Make yourself a promise that if you achieve certain goals, you will treat yourself. Maybe it’s a golf or a spa day. The goal needs to be achievable and the reward needs to be realistic. Then, you have to follow through with the treat!

We are no different than our kids. Have you ever promised them a reward and then reneged? I’m betting it never worked again. You are no different. Follow through on the promises you make to yourself or you will lose credibility. You’ll never trust yourself again and you won’t do the activity.

Whether it is tricks or treats that work for you, find out what they are and make sure you have a good supply ready.
