My UFC (Up Front Contract) today is that this discussion will involve God, how faith affects your life and how it also affects your business.
On Sunday, April 1, 2012 I attended Connexus and listened to a presentation by Carey Nieuwhof. This was part 2 of Little Faith/Big God.
So many deny faith that I believe that overflows into the rest of their life. When God is in your life, amazing things happen. Sometimes, we have to go through challenges to get to them. The problem is too many lose their faith and never get to the good things. We get so focused on on the little distractions that we lose sight of the goal and end up going way off track.
When my son was dying, I have to say I didn’t have a lot of faith. I did have a little. As we went through the process, God helped that faith to grow so that when my son died, I was able to find the strength to keep myself together and remember that I had a family that needed me even more now. I have to admit that at that time, I really didn’t notice the little things!
Carey used a great example of everyday circumstances that I think most of us have experienced at one time or another. He had gone to a major coffee shop on more than one occasion and been given coffee when he had ordered tea. The problem is you don’t find out until you are on the highway. It became the prudent thing to do and smell the tea before he moved on.
Then one day, he didn’t sniff. He got coffee again. Then he focused so much on getting the coffee replaced with a tea that he lost over a half hour of his day and could still taste coffee in the cup! What should have been a little distraction ended up taking him way off track and you can’t get that time back.
I would compare this to what often happens in the Multi Level Marketing (MLM) business. You find an opportunity and build it into your plan. Then one day, you hit a bump and something distracts you. You lose faith in where you were going and what you were doing. You start listening to others who have also hit a bump and end up becoming scattered and going in many directions. Someone else always has something to say.
Often times, this is caused because someone is trying to force you to follow their direction that doesn’t fit your own life and values. One size does NOT fit all. Have some faith in yourself and find a way to do your business in a way that fits your life. Most good MLM’s recognize that they are not the only solution and that everyone finds their place. There really is a place for everyone in every MLM.
For example, my wife found a great service that fits our moral values. It happens to have a business opportunity attached. I believe she will find a way to do that business and be successful. One of the mistakes we identified is that we fell into the trap of strictly surrounding ourselves by people in the same business. Guess what? You won’t find any new opportunities there!
I found an Internet marketing company that also has a business opportunity. What that does for us is allows her to do her business without conflict and me to do this business. The great thing is that her business needs my tools and my network can benefit from her business.
If you are true to yourself and God, you will find your way. When you hit the rough spots, God will be there to help you through. Just remember that sometimes it really doesn’t seem like it. That’s when you really need to have a little faith. Not a lot, just a little. That little seed of faith will be nurtured and grow if you let it.
You might want to plant three little seeds of faith each day and that might help you. You will notice that I end every blog with three things I am thankful for today. When I do that, the rest of my day goes so much better. I believe it’s because I chose to plant little seeds of faith. Will you?
Make it a great day!
P.S. What am I thankful for today? I’m thankful our new boarder got moved in ok. I’m thankful my cable box reactivated. I’m thankful I woke up this morning. Some didn’t.
What are you thankful for today?
